📚 Program Overview

This structured training program covers the complete research lifecycle — from forming a question to publishing your findings. Each module builds on the previous, equipping you with the knowledge and skills to conduct and communicate rigorous academic research.

📋 Before you begin: Set aside approximately 90 minutes. Work through all modules in order. Each module ends with a short check-in. After all modules, you will take a 35-question final quiz (pass mark: 75%). Your unique certificate will be generated instantly upon passing.

All authors must complete the REHS Research Training Module and pass the assessment quiz before submitting a manuscript. This ensures every submission meets the academic standards of our journal.

2 Pass the 35-question assessment (75% pass mark)
3 Receive your unique REHS Certificate ID (e.g. REHS-2025-482917)
4 Return here and include your Certificate ID with your submission

🔄 Peer Review Process

📋 REHS Journal employs a double-blind peer review process combined with an AI-assisted preliminary screening to ensure rigorous quality assessment while maintaining fairness. All reviewers are qualified subject matter experts.

📏 Review Matrices — 12-Point Evaluation Framework

Each manuscript is evaluated on 12 standardized criteria aligned with top-tier journals including Nature, Science, PLOS ONE, Cell, and JAMA. Scores range 1–10 per criterion.

📋 Decision Categories

✅ Accept as is — Score ≥ 8.5/10 on all major criteria. Minor typographical corrections may be requested.
🔵 Minor Revision — Score 7.0–8.4. Small improvements needed in 1–3 areas. Authors have 21 days to revise.
🟡 Major Revision — Score 5.5–6.9. Significant work needed. Authors have 45 days. Re-reviewed by same reviewers.
❌ Reject — Score below 5.5, or fundamental flaws, plagiarism, or ethical violations detected. Authors may resubmit as a new submission after addressing all issues.

📖 Author Guidelines

Please read these guidelines carefully before submitting. Manuscripts not conforming to these requirements will be returned without review.

1. Eligibility

REHS Journal accepts submissions from currently enrolled high school students (Grades 9–12, ages 14–19) worldwide. At least one author must be a high school student. All submissions must be supervised by a qualified faculty mentor or teacher.

3. Manuscript Structure

  1. Title Page (submitted separately) — Title, all authors, affiliations, corresponding author contact, word count, conflict of interest declaration
  2. Abstract — Structured (Background / Objective / Methods / Results / Conclusion), 150–300 words
  3. Keywords — 5–8 terms; use MeSH for life sciences
  4. Introduction — Background, literature gap, research question, objectives
  5. Methods — Reproducible methodology, statistical analyses, ethical approvals
  6. Results — Objective presentation with figures/tables
  7. Discussion — Interpretation, limitations, comparison with literature
  8. Conclusion — Summary of findings, future directions
  9. Acknowledgments — Funding, contributors
  10. Author Contributions — CRediT taxonomy roles
  11. References — APA 7th, MLA 9th, Vancouver, or Chicago 17th

4. Formatting Requirements

  • Font: Times New Roman 12pt or Arial 11pt
  • Double spacing throughout main text
  • Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides
  • Page numbers: bottom center
  • Figures: ≥300 DPI, labeled (Fig. 1, Fig. 2...), with captions below
  • Tables: labeled above (Table 1, Table 2...)
  • No author names in the main manuscript (blind review)
  • Use SI units throughout
  • Statistical significance: report exact p-values, confidence intervals, effect sizes

5. Citation & Reference Standards

  • All claims must be supported by peer-reviewed citations
  • Do not cite Wikipedia, personal websites, or non-peer-reviewed sources as primary evidence
  • DOIs must be included for all articles where available
  • Self-citations should be minimized and justified
  • References must be complete, accurate, and consistent in format throughout

⚖️ Publication Ethics Policy

Any violation of publication ethics — including plagiarism, data fabrication, duplicate submission, or authorship fraud — will result in immediate rejection, retraction, and potential notification of the author's institution.

🔄 Retraction Policy

Articles may be retracted if post-publication review reveals misconduct, errors that affect conclusions, or ethical violations. Retraction notices are permanently attached to the original article with full explanation.

🤖 AI Use Policy

AI tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, etc.) may be used for grammar/language assistance only. AI cannot be listed as an author. Any AI assistance must be disclosed in the Methods or Acknowledgments section. AI-generated research, data, or analyses are prohibited.
